Cedar Point Ventures managed $280M across three funds. Their digital infrastructure didn't reflect the caliber of the relationships they were managing.
Cedar Point Ventures had grown from a single seed fund to three active funds with 180+ LPs across two continents. Their LP portal was a legacy SharePoint installation with a clunky document interface and no mobile support. Quarterly reports were emailed as PDFs; capital calls required 4 manual back-and-forth touchpoints.
Two institutional LPs had directly flagged the digital experience in annual reviews — a rare and serious signal that the operational gap was becoming a relationship risk. A competing fund had recently launched a polished investor portal that was being discussed in LP circles, adding competitive urgency to an already pressing internal need.
The stakes were clear: in a business built entirely on trust and relationship quality, a digital infrastructure that felt like a 2012 intranet was no longer acceptable. The upgrade wasn't optional — it was overdue.
We began with LP research — surveying 34 LPs across fund sizes and geographies to understand their information needs, preferred communication cadence, and existing friction. We mapped the full LP lifecycle from onboarding through capital call through quarterly report, identifying 18 distinct touchpoints that needed redesign.
The redesign covered two surfaces: a public fund marketing site for new LP prospecting, and a secure authenticated portal for existing LP document access, fund performance, and communications. Both were built to the same design system to signal institutional coherence — the visual language of trust matching the operational reality of the relationship.
The LP onboarding workflow was rebuilt entirely: digital subscription documents, KYC checklist, wire instruction delivery, and a welcome sequence — all inside the portal, replacing 6 email threads and 3 DocuSign loops with a single guided flow that averaged completion in under 45 minutes.
A 16-week engagement across four phases — LP research first, architecture before design, and simultaneous launch of both surfaces.
34 LP surveys, 8 in-depth interviews, and a full lifecycle journey map from first contact through fund maturity — across both domestic and international LPs.
Information architecture, permission model design, document taxonomy, and communication flow mapping — defining the structural rules before any visual design began.
Dual-surface design system across 18 unique screen states — public marketing site and authenticated portal — built in a shared Figma component library.
Next.js public site and secure portal with document access, notification system, and LP onboarding workflow — both surfaces launched simultaneously within the 16-week window.
Measured through portal analytics and LP annual survey data collected 6 months after the dual-surface launch.
LPs accessing portal weekly vs. monthly previously; document open rates up across all fund materials and quarterly reports.
Digital onboarding workflow replaced 6 manual email touchpoints and 3 DocuSign loops with a single guided in-portal flow.
Portal fully responsive; 31% of LP logins now occur on mobile — up from effectively zero on the legacy SharePoint installation.
New document taxonomy with version control replaced emailed PDF attachments entirely — all fund materials now live in the portal.
Annual LP survey showed a 41-point improvement in digital experience satisfaction after the portal and marketing site relaunch.
Public site and authenticated portal launched simultaneously within the 16-week project window — all features live on day one.
Survey synthesis from 34 LPs, journey maps across the full LP lifecycle, friction audit, and information hierarchy recommendations for both digital surfaces.
Full information architecture, permission model for role-based LP access, document taxonomy, and onboarding workflow design before any visual design began.
18-screen Figma system covering public marketing site and authenticated portal — shared component library ensuring visual coherence across both surfaces.
Next.js portal with Supabase auth, role-based permissions, document versioning, notification system, and full capital call workflow inside the authenticated environment.
Public-facing site covering fund thesis, team, portfolio companies, and LP contact and inquiry flow — designed to the same visual system as the authenticated portal.
Fully digital LP onboarding: digital subscription documents, KYC checklist, wire instruction delivery, and welcome sequence — all inside the portal, replacing email-based processes entirely.
